Tuesday, we got off the plane in Honduras and were greeted by our host, Tony. Our first order of business: Little Caesar’s. I didn’t exactly expect to be eating pizza and drinking a coke within the first few moments of being in Tegucigalpa, but then again, the whole trip concerns a mindset of no expectations. After our first Honduran meal, if you can call it that, we piled into two vans with our backpacks strapped to the top, and we rode twenty minutes through the streets and up a mountain to our new home, Zion’s Gate Ministries. This place we will live for the next few months is more beautiful than anything I imagined. During the day, there is an awesome view looking out over the mountain, and at night, there is an incredible view of the stars as well as city lights. The weather is perfect, the food is great, and yes, there is an actual bathroom. For breakfast the other morning, we had a tortilla with eggs, cheese, plantains, avocado, and hot sauce on it. Talk about including all of the major food groups, but SERIOUSLY it is one of the best things I have ever tasted. My lack of Spanish skills is making for some awesome Spanglish conversations. I just recently found out that the way I pronounce my name actually means parrot in Spanish… so I have since adjusted the pronunciation.

God has already been doing some awesome things in this place. Tony sat us down to tell us about everything, and he told us the backgrounds of some of the 15 or so boys that live here. Most of them came off of the streets of Los Pinos and have dealt with more things in their lives than any teenage boy should have. They choose to live here because life in the streets and at home was dark and violent.

I will share more later, but for now we are just getting adjusted to home. There was also a small group from a church in North Carolina here, but they left Thursday. In that group, there were two boys that previously did the World Race and decided to come back here. A girl named Cassie, who also did the World Race, lives here and is working on adopting a little girl.

I’m excited to settle down into a routine with my new family and see God move. This is surreal, and it’s crazy I will be able to say I lived in Honduras for a little while. I miss y’all, and I am excited to share everything with you!
